After a brief introduction to the history of the Dolomites, which surround the shrine of Maria Weis-senstein, we begin the guided tour of the monastery Maria Weissenstein, which is Tyrols most important and largest place of pilgrimage, and the former summer residence of Pope John Paul I. A very special event in the history of the monastery Maria Weißenstein took place on July 17, 1988, as Pope John Paul II, with thousands of believers, celebrated a Holy Mass. Thousands of believers visit this place of pilgrimage each year. The high altar of the basilica, covered with gold leaf and silver leaf, as well as the side altars and the frescoes on the vault are worth a visit. Hundreds of Votive panels are kept in a side aisle in the church. The guided tour includes historical, architectural and spiritual insights into life inside the monastery in which the fathers of the Servite Order live . A glimpse of the extremely interesting library finishes the guided tour.
